27th Apr, 2020, Cogent 4K 5G backpack to conquer the Mount Everest. This is the first ever 24hours+ live streaming at the world's tallest peak using 5G cellular network in UHD

[Apr 27, 2020] The mission of getting the most accurate measurement to date of the world's tallest peak is the joint efforts of Nepal and China since last fall. Nepal sent a team of surveyors up the mountain in 2017 and 2018. A group of eight researchers from China is going to summit Mount Everest in May 2020.  Mount Everest’s recognized elevation has been 8,848 meter (29,029 feet) above sea level since 1955. The new measurement will be taken using 5G and China’s BeiDou satellite-navigation system. The surveyors will also collect data on snow depth, weather, and wind speed, which will be used to monitor the deterioration of glaciers and other ecological impacts of climate change. Next, scientists from the two countries will meet to review all the findings and determine Everest’s official height.

The plan also includes the world’s first attempt to live streaming the stunning 24+ hour scene of the peak of Mount Everest using 4K Ultra-high definition with the 5G cellular network.

The 5G cellular network at the Mount Everest is set up by the China Mobile. It’s a challenging task to produce the non-stop 24+ hours live coverage – the highest elevation in the earth-planet, extremely low temperature and air pressure, exposing to strong ultraviolet ray… and the organizer turned to Cogent for the answers.

“Cogent is the first in the world to have the commercialized 5G 4K bonded cellular system in the market. They have unparalleled experiences in this new technology. It’s natural that Cogent was selected for this live broadcast mission that no one else has performed before, “said one of the officials from the organizer.

Here are the key areas that helped to conquer the Mount Everest,

l  Favoring transportation and least on-site installation

The Cogent T50 4K 5G backpack weight less than 1Kg. With embedded 5G modules and 5G MiFi and 5G cellular phone. It’s highly flexible for 5G connection with ease.

Cogent also developed the cloud based receiving end. By upgrading the systems with Cogent’s SRT transmission license we enable 4K high bit rate streams to be transmitted to the live streaming platform flawlessly.

l  Favoring operation at low temp and strong sun radiation

Cogent’s smart design survived low temperature startup for the sake of elevation as well as high temperature working environment due to strong sun radiation. Once again, field-proven base on unparalleled experiences and knowledge of the research team of Cogent.

l  Favoring non-stop live streaming

There are multi sessions of live streaming for a whole period of five days. And one of the sessions is non-stop 24+ hours. It proves the Cogent T-50 is highly reliable even at the toughest conditions.
